Tom was National President of the GB Salesian Past Pupils Federation for three different periods. He was a Thornleigh Past Pupil. No details yet of funeral arangements. "MAY HE REST IN PEACE"

Admin reply: Dad's requiem will be at St Mary's Church, Horwich at 12noon on Friday , 27th January and cremation at the West Chapel, Overdale Crematorium, Bolton at 1pm.
Dad had been poorly for some time and had had pneumonia 3 times since the end of November. His poor lungs were just not strong enough to recover. He was very frail and it was very distressing watching him struggle to breathe in the last couple of weeks.

Comments: I was at Shrigley with Gerard Durkin between 1972 - 1975. Other classmates I remember where Damian Slaney, Joe Glackin, Eugene Doherty, Paul Kelly, John Prior, Phil Donnelly, Peter McGann, Paul Feehilly, Ted Rusinek, Nigel Pearson, Mick Quinlan, Duncan Stewart , Gerard (?) from Workington etc. Other pupils were Eric Cahill , John Whitehead, Bret Stuart, Paul Higgins, Peter Adamus, Gereard Ling, Peter Murphy and Frank ( Gerard's brother )
I was in a production of Godspell with Gerard Durkin staged by Brother Peter Lally ( brother Danny played the role of Jesus ). I still have some photographs somewhere from the show. We performed it at Shrigley and at the church in Bollington.
When I was there Father Power was Rector and in the first year Father Donohue was Headmaster.
I didn't know Joe Glackin had gone on to be ordained. Congratulations to Joe amd best wishes to all my past classmates, friends and Brothers.
David McGolpin
Admin reply: Dear David,
Many thanks for your message in our National Website. It's great to have all those names that you mention. I believe the Rector might have been Father Michael Power. If so, you might be interested to know that he finished his Salesian work in South Africa, where he died and is buried. I hope you get some reactions from the many named former school friends.

Comments: Dear Readers,
We have just learned of the death of a Thornleih Old Boy, Jack Halliwell. See below:
"Dear Fr. Pat,
I have just heard that a Jack Halliwell has died and his funeral is at Sacred Heart Church, Westhoughton on Monday 29th November at 11.15am.
He was in my year at Thornleigh starting in 1952. He was great at football being on Leeds United books, for a period then in the Civil Service.
Please pray for him and his family.
Thanks, Paul"
If you know of Jack and can spread the news to others of his years at Thornleigh, please do spread the word. Many thanks. "May He Rest in Peace".
