Salesian Past Pupils UK Guestbook

Continuing Battersea Old Salesians FC's most successful ever season, the 1st XI yesterday defeated Old Carthusians 3-2 to win the Amateur Football Alliance Senior Cup.
Losing 0-2 at half time, the Salesians staged a remarkable turnaround in the second half by scoring three times in a 10 minute spell midway through the half.
A large crowd were at Winchmore Hill FC to support both sides.
And later the Salesian team and supporters returned to their Social Club at Ewell to celebrate their victory.
Old Salesians had won this most prized trophy in Amateur Football three times before - in 1968, 1985 and 1990.
Old Carthusians (Past Pupils of Charterhouse School) were one of the first winners of the FA Cup in 1881, and the first FA Amateur Cup Winners in 1894. The father of the captain of the current Old Carthusians 1st XI is an Old Salesian (Paul Nash), and he had scored 3 goals for the Salesian 1st XI in the 1968 Cup Final.
Don Bosco would have been proud of all his boys.

Admin reply: Dear Patrick,

John Ward, National Vice President, GB Ferderation :D

Hi to all my old class mates,

I was at Cowley from 1966 to 1969 and would be interested to know if any of you will be going to the Cowley reunion on 9th October this year.

It would be good to catch up after 40 or so years!!!!

I was at Shrigley from 1958nto 1961 where my nickname was Squeek.
I ahve been a memeber of the Shrigley Assoc. since 2008.

Sadly, since we lost a lot of Old Boys' messages, though a good number can still be seen as they were recoverd, we have had no messages from Old Salesians, for many months now.

IT WOULD MAKE OUR WEBSITE FAR MORE INTERESTING TO READERS IF OLD BOYS WOULD START AGAIN TO ADD MESSAGES TO THIS GUESTBOOK.

HERE'S HOPING

Dear Readers,

John Bosco is alive and well and teaching Catholic children in Uganda! St. Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary, Guildford, has built a partnership over the past 4 years with Busenya Catholic Primary in Mukono District in Uganda. The school is in a poor rural area, malaria is rife, classes have between 60-110 pupils. Younger children are taught underneath a mango tree.

Two of the teachers visited us in March this year. The Deputy was called John Bosco, and when I enquired as to how he came to have the name he told me that his birth had been very difficult, and that his mother was nursed by missionary Sisters. I'm not sure if they were Salesians. The Sisters told John’s mother that as he was born on the 31st January that the child must be called after the saint whose feast day it was, and that is how John Bosco is alive and well and teaching Catholic children in Uganda! Dear Readers,

As many of you will know, the Saelsian College at Battersa, in Surrey Lane, will close at the end of this summers' term. The buildings will be then demolished in preparation, hopefully, for a new St John Bosco College to be bulit on the former college site. This will be a replacement for the the two Catholic schools that are amalgamating and will be co-educational and with full 6th Form capcity.

To celebrate the closure of the Salesian College in Surrey Lane, which has meant so much to so many, after over one hundred years, a Thanksgiivng Mass and Reception afterwards will be held on 07 July 2011 at The Sacred Heart Church and thereafter in the newly refurbished Church Hall. The Mass will be at 2pm

All are welcome. Do add this date in your diaries. Keep a check on the Events section of this Website for any new inforamtion that becomes available about this important event

John Ward, National Vice President PP Federation (GB) :)

The school is due to close in the summer and details are still awaited regarding any future redevelopment. The following day, Don Bosco's feastday, also marks the centenary of the Battersea Association.
