Many happy memories of my time at Shrigley (1967-72). To anyone out there who are contemporaries, I hope life has been good to you. I can remember most of the names and only sad that we may not meet up in the future. As an aside, who can remember a certain lay brother (I will withhold his name out of respect) who was infamous for his trademark knuckle rap to the crown of the head? I can still recall one occasion when my knees buckled and my head hurt for days afterwards. Classy!

Admin reply: Dear Jim Taque,

Thanks for your message in our National Website Guestbook.

I hope you get some responses from your former School mates.

Best wishes,

John

thornleigh in bolton. there, * * * by gordon dimmer, head of art, and fr. carroll, beaten up by an australian priest when i tried to tell

NOTE, copying this to greater manchester police. dc mather, di walker, i guess you dont publish it, have something to hide

raised my concerns with t williams, head of safeguarding for salesians, while he has been less than happy to provide any info, has been very quick to attack me, victim of child abuse. wonder what HE has to hide, or what HE is seeking to cover up

now contacted official salesians site, sdb.org, pointed out how rubbish salesians in england are, what rubbish their safeguarding procedures are, how unwilling they are to address legitimate complaints

if you too were * * * at thornleigh by gordon dimmer, father carroll, or beaten up by some australian * * * priest, fr tony something, please contact dc mather, astley bridge police station, bolton, or di walker, greater manchester police, 0161-8565655

Continuation of post: In 1955, our local primary school was built and dedicated to St. John Bosco and around the same time our Parish church was built next to the school site. It was dedicated in its turn to the Salesian Nuns as 'Our Lady, Mary Help of Christians'.Bill died in 1990, aged 72 and his funeral rites were performed there.I think it was particularly apt that he was commended to his final resting place under the auspices of the same Saint and Order that launched him successfully into manhood. Bravo!
My father died suddenly and left me with much curiousity about his London schooling years. If anyone has any information I'd appreciate it. Regards Kieran Bizzell

Admin reply: Dear Kieran,

Your story about you Dad is very interesting. I appeal to our Readers to see if they can help you fill in any more details.

Best wishes,

John

Suggest Gerald Glancy does an internet search for "Shrigley Association". The website is no longer being added to but is a mine of useful information.

Admin reply: Keiran,

Thanks for your message in our Guestbook I wish you luck in your search for info. Best wishes,

John

I think my father, William Bizzell, attended the college in the 1920’s. He was born in Ireland, in 1917. In 1989, shortly before he died, he visited me in London where I was living then. Bill was not given to reminiscence but he told me that he attended ‘the Salesians’ in Battersea where ‘they knocked sense into me’ even though academically, he confessed to being a bit of a ‘woodener’, Irish for ‘not that smart at the books.’ He was proud of the association however, I remember, and also that he served Mass as an altar boy at Brompton Oratory.
Bill thrived in England, due in no small part to his natural wit and also the opportunities the great city afforded him. He returned to Ireland after the War, married and settled in 1950 in the house that is now my home. He wasn’t a great ‘Catholic’ as he admitted and was not a regular mass-goer but I think his bedrock faith surfaced when he would finish a story with ‘we all need a sheet anchor in this life, the Man above’. See next post!

Admin reply: Dear Kieran,

Many thanks for your message in our National Website Guestbook. I trust you will obtain some news that you are seeking. Best wishes,

John - Hello!

I tried to 'phone you last pm and x 2 this am. I got news that George Austin died on 1st of January 2013 and the funeral was private. The notice in The Forest Review specifies strict privacy. I will be submitting a Tribute to The Guestbook once it's up and running again and will write to Beryl. I informed RA & LC.

Other news it that Sheila Evans of Blaisdon House (The Old Rectory) is awarded an MBE for her work on fundraising for the Gloucestershire Hospice.

I thought the message currently coming up on THe Guestbook might be useful to you. Best Regards. TB

Admin reply: Dear Tony,

Thanks for the sad and the good news. I'll set something up on both of these.

Did you try to clear down and try again?

I am now getting what you are getting. I need to speak to Demon about this. It asks if I would like to set up a PHP. I agree, but response now suggests there is a problem.

I think I can get both messages ontoo our Latest News, so I'll do this for now.

Hopefully I will be able soon to add my missing Emails addresses, which will allow me to draw peoples attn to what I have done, like I did in the past.

John
