Dear Readers,

I found out this evening, when I called Richard Blake, former Cowley President and National Treasurer, that Richard is very unwell. He has been in hospital with Pneumonia for a week then home for a week and had to return to hopsital for another week. He is at home right now but very week indeed. Fr Sean had invited Richard to the Jubilee celebrations on Sunday next in Gloucester, and I was checking if he might be there with us. Sadly, Richard is too week to walk any distance and his breathing has become laboured as he has now got Bronchitis.

Please keep Richard in your kind thoughts and prayers, that Richard soon gets all the treatments that will pull him through this very difficult and painful period.

I will keep in touch and update this info as I get more, hopefully better news.

Many thanks, John Ward National Vice President

It is the intention to hold an AGM/ReUnion in 2012 and we are currently examining the options open to us in terms of a venue whilst the Surrey Lane site is out of commission. More news to follow.

I am sure everyone hugely enjoyed the recent splendid and historical issue of Maroon & Gold-many congratulations to our Editor Rebecca. We are keen to continue production so the Treasurer asks that you send in your annual subscription of £25 as soon as possible to keep us in funds.

Dad had been poorly for some time and had had pneumonia 3 times since the end of November. His poor lungs were just not strong enough to recover. He was very frail and it was very distressing watching him struggle to breathe in the last couple of weeks.

I was at Shrigley with Gerard Durkin between 1972 - 1975. Other classmates I remember where Damian Slaney, Joe Glackin, Eugene Doherty, Paul Kelly, John Prior, Phil Donnelly, Peter McGann, Paul Feehilly, Ted Rusinek, Nigel Pearson, Mick Quinlan, Duncan Stewart , Gerard (?) from Workington etc. Other pupils were Eric Cahill , John Whitehead, Bret Stuart, Paul Higgins, Peter Adamus, Gereard Ling, Peter Murphy and Frank ( Gerard's brother )

I was in a production of Godspell with Gerard Durkin staged by Brother Peter Lally ( brother Danny played the role of Jesus ). I still have some photographs somewhere from the show. We performed it at Shrigley and at the church in Bollington.

When I was there Father Power was Rector and in the first year Father Donohue was Headmaster.

I didn't know Joe Glackin had gone on to be ordained. Congratulations to Joe amd best wishes to all my past classmates, friends and Brothers.

David McGolpin

Admin reply: Dear David,

Many thanks for your message in our National Website. It's great to have all those names that you mention. I believe the Rector might have been Father Michael Power. If so, you might be interested to know that he finished his Salesian work in South Africa, where he died and is buried. I hope you get some reactions from the many named former school friends.

John Ward, National Vice President, GB past Pupils' Fesderation.

It is easy for you to start one. If you type "Website Gestbooks", without the quotation marks, into you Google box, you will see a lisitng of free Guestbooks and the web address from which you can create one. Just click on the blue address.

Once created they need to be regularly looked at, I suggest, at least, every day.

Best wishes and good luck, John
